“Graz: Austria’s Historic University City and Hidden Gem”
Graz is Austria’s second largest city and an old university town with six universities.
Get to know Graz and make the most of its prime attractions; the picturesque, old center, which is part of the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites, and Castle Hill above the city center, are great reasons to visit Graz.
Where to stay in Graz
Old Town and the Innere Stadt center of Graz are located at the base of Castle Hill. The Jakominiplatz square, located at the southern terminus of the principal shopping street Herrangasse, has a bus stop to and from the airport.
If you’re travelling by train, areas close to the train and bus stations are also well-suited for accommodation. There are some shops and a big supermarket for groceries (Merkur Markt) just in front of the stations at the beginning of Annenstrasse. Annenstrasse is a wide street with a lot of stores, and it leads straight to the old town and its center Hauptplatz. The distance from the stations to Hauptplatz is about 1.5 kilometers.
The Old Twon
Graz is best on the charming streets and narrow alleys of the Old Town. Small boutiques and restaurant terraces appear here and there in the lively atmosphere.
The Old Town district, in addition to the historic center, includes the Schloßberg hill and the City park.
Shopping Centers
CityPark, with some 100 shops (link), lies 1,7 km southwest of Hauptplatz.
ShoppingCity Seiersberg, with approximately 180 stores (link), is located south of the city at a distance of some 8 kilometers from Hauptplatz.
Other urban shopping centers outside of the city center: Murpark, Center West, Shopping Nord
