The Magic of Hundertwasser House: Vienna’s Colorful Architectural Gem

The Hundertwasser House in Vienna is Austria’s architectural gem. Friedensreich Hundertwasser’s house attracts tourists from across the globe.

The Hundertwasser House in Vienna features the unmistakable touch of the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser (1928-2000), whose birth name was Friedrich Stowasser. The colorfully adorned outer façade of Hundertwasser House in Vienna commands attention nearly magically. The Hundertwasserhaus is only accessible from the outside.

Directly across from the Hundertwasserhaus, however, stands the Hundertwasser Village, open to the public. It was built from a tire factory in 1990-1991. The artist designed his own shopping mall here with a “village square”, a pub and many shops in the classic Hundertwasser manner.

The Hundertwasserhaus in Vienna is an architecturally realized building by the artist Friedensreich Hundertwasser in the 3rd Viennese district. The remarkable building was built between 1983 and 1985. It was architecturally executed with the help of architect Josef Krawina as co-creator and implementing architect Peter Pelikan. The outcome is familiar about everywhere on earth.

The visionary art of the Viennese, who, due to his vision on the environment and sustainability, is also rated as one of the first European green pioneers, is enjoyed and displayed all over the world. Since 2022, there has also been a second Hundertwasser museum: The Hundertwasser Art Centre with Wairau Maori Art Gallery in his adopted home country, New Zealand
